For 40 years Cathy Palmer has been teaching the joy of playing the violin to children age 5 through adults, including adult beginners. With a teaching style that is always positive and encouraging, she offers classical violin, also Irish, Scottish, and American styles of fiddling, along with Renaissance and Medieval music. Lessons include reading music, music theory, sight reading, ear training, memorization, and playing rounds and duets. Also, music composition and back up improvisation is offered if the student is interested in traditional styles.Experience in playing in groups is also offered in a monthly chamber ensemble or a lively traditional music jam session. students' musical family members are also welcomed to join the music groups. Students can participate in a yearly holiday group concert for family and friends. Some students also perform with Cathy at the Maryland Renaissance festival where they do group Renaissance dances as they play the music!
